These people read books for a living, and took the time to be kind. These are not the only rejections I got but they are my favorites.

There's nothing wrong with the writing, and the first three chapters seem interesting enough.

After careful consideration, we regret to inform you that we are unable to proceed with your manuscript at this time. While we found the premise intriguing, we ultimately did not feel it was the right fit for our current list.
Notes: There's nothing wrong with the writing, and the first three chapters seem interesting enough. We just see this working best as an ebook with linked footnotes for the many foreign words. This would be a labor-intensive task, however, and we don't have the resources for it. We wish you the best of luck finding a home for this piece.

I think you have quite an interesting novel.
Thanks for sending along your synopsis and sample chapters—that was indeed exactly what I was looking for. I took the opportunity to read them this evening. I think you have quite an interesting novel. Unfortunately, while I enjoyed reading the sample chapters, I don’t think it’s the right fit for our market right now so I’m going to have to pass on publication, but I encourage you to stick with it and I wish you the best of luck in finding the right publisher.
